St Albans Masters Swimming Club (STAMSC) was formed in 2005 bringing together masters swimmers (18 and over) from two St Albans swimming clubs, City of St Albans ASC (CoStA) and Verulam ASC, to take part in swimming events as one club. We now have over 80 members and are registered with Swim England, Eastern Counties, and Hertfordshire.

 

Our club includes swimmers of varying levels of ability and provides them with the opportunity to improve fitness, and train in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. We welcome swimmers who are used to swimming lengths – from those who just want to have a structure around their swimming to help improve their general fitness to those who also want to participate in competitive events.

 

Our first competition under the new club’s banner in June 2006 saw us winning the team event at the Herts Masters, a competition which we have now won 10 out of 11 times that we have entered. Each year we aim to field a team in one or two Senior League Events (e.g. Aylesbury & Herts). A small number of us also take part in Open Meets, Regional, National and International championship events. We believe setting goals gives some people a focus and motivation for their training, but participation is not compulsory. 

 

We like to follow all team events with a jolly good social gathering, but it's fair to say that we don't need an excuse for a social event. We like to enjoy ourselves and organise social events a few times each year so that our members can get to know each other better.
